NSS

Objective: The NSS unit worked tirelessly in a plethora of activities all through the academic year and added to this, they also conducted a special camp for a week at Government Primary School, Kunda, near Ponnampet, form 23-12-2009 to 29-12-2009. Nearly hundred volunteers participated in the annual special camp.

Programs:

  • Processions on Environmental issues, Aids awareness, Anti-smoking, on spiritual awareness program and on National Integration
  • The NSS unit installed a Red Ribbon Club and the Aids Control Officer of the District inaugurated it on 23-03-2010.

Cultural Association

Objective
The cultural committee organized quite a few programs for our students to promote culture & tradition of the region and also to tap the inherent talents of our students.

  • Cauvery Ummathat team of our college performed our traditional dance  (Ummathat) at the cultural camp in Sangli, Maharashtra, sponsored by Nehru Yuvaka Snagha and our team represented Karnataka in a cultural exchange program.
  • Kannada Abivridhi Pradhikara, Government of Karnataka invited our team to perform in Shimoga.
  • The same team participated in a Kannada Sammelana at Kasaragod.
  • The Ummathat & Bolkat team (The traditional dance group) participated in the ‘Yuva Dasara & Krishi Dasara’ program at Mysore and won appreciation from the audience.
  • The cultural team participated in the State Level Inter-collegiate cultural competition organized by the ‘Vishwa Manava Vidhyarthi Yuva Vedike’ at Mysore and brought laurels to our college.
  • Our students took part in the inter-collegiate cultural fest on the theme “Mythology & Tradition” organized by St. Agnes college, Mangalore and won a III place.
  • The cultural committee conducted inter-class cultural competitions in connection with the college annual day celebrations.
  • The Magnus college for Management of Mysore organized a cultural fest for kodagu region in our college and some of our students got selected to participate in the state level cultural competition.

Commerce Association:

Objective:
The Association regularly conducts personality development and soft skills enhancement programs such as Group discussion, Mock interviews, Business Quiz, Analytical ability tests etc. Besides Seminars, Subject Quiz is also conducted. Factory visits, Annual Tours and Picnics are also arranged every year.

  • The Commerce Association was inaugurated on 08-08-2009 by Prof. Gilbert D’Silva, correspondent parish priest St. Anne’s Church, Virajpet.
  • Quiz was conducted by Prof. Keshav to all B.Com Students.
  • Faculty of AIG TATA Coy visited the III B.Com students on July 23rd and explained the students about job opportunities in the field of insurance.
  • Biz world was conducted in association with Aptech Computers, Gonikoppal.
  • Group discussion and Mock interviews were conducted to prepare the students for placement in higher jobs in the Coorg district level.
  • Conducting an add-on-course in HRD for all final year students.

Studies, Magnus Institute of Management, Mysore and Casme institute of Management, Mysore was organized.

   
  • Taj securities group visited the college on 16-02-2010 for campus selection and recruited 11 students.
  • Infosys Bangalore has recognized Cauvery College, Gonikoppal as the Recruitment centre in the Kodagu District.
  • Infosys Bangalore conducted campus selection of graduating students on 12-04-2010. Students from various colleges of Kodagu District like St.Anne’s Collge, Virajpet, Cauvery college virajpet, FMKM college Madikeri, BTCG college, Somwarpet, Government College Kushalnagar & Virajpet and Cauvery college Gonikoppal participated in the selection program. Out of 19 students who got selected, 9 students are from our college.Campus selections conducted by the following companies in other institutions and the selection of our students are as follows:

  • Arranged guest lectures on CA and ICS courses for Commerce and Management students.
  • In association with District Employment Office, the college conducted coaching classes for Recruitment in Indian Army from 21st Jan to 31st Jan, 2010. Twenty Students attended the coaching class.
  • The HRD cell also issued several books on competitive examinations to the students from the departmental library of HRD.

Science Association

  • The Association conducted an Essay competition on “Science and Superstition” in connection with National Science Day on 17th Feb 2010 and also conducted an Elocution competition on ‘Save Earth’.
  • Students of Science participated in a Science exhibition organized by the FMKMC college Madikeri on 25-02-2010 and won 1st & 2nd Prize in Life Science group.
  • The association conducted an exhibition on Biodiversity on 20th Feb 2010. Students from various other institutions participated in the exhibition.

Parent Teacher Association

Objective:
On 30-09-1987 Parents’ Teachers’ Association was started in Cauvery College, Gonikoppal. The objective of the association was to create among the parents and teachers a healthy attitude and build fellowship and co-operation in them. 

Alumni Association
Objective:
The ex-students of the Cauvery College, Gonikoppal, Kodagu District, Karnataka State, INDIA, have resolved to form an Association so as to bring together all the alumni/ae of our Almamater and accordingly, resolved association called “The Cauverians Alumni/ae Association, Gonikoppal” on 21st Friday of November 2003.The Alumni Association helps the management to improve the infrastructure facilities. It encourages extracurricular activities, sports, games, N.C.C., N.S.S. and cultural activities.

  • The Alumni Association organized a Hockey match between old students and regular students
  • They conducted an inter-class debate competition on “The use of Mobile phones in the campus”
  • The Alumni Association has planned to organize a “Geetha Gayana Programme” by inviting noted Musicians & singers in the month of September 2010.

Health Club
Objective:
To create awareness of health & spiritual fabric of life, our college formed health club. “A healthy mind in a healthy body”, which one has both, life will unfold with pleasure.

NCC

The NCC unit has 180 cadets. NCC cadets attended several National camps in various places. The NCC and NSS units joined hands with Rotary Club, Gonikoppal, Organizing a Jatha on “Anti-Tobacco” on 27th March 2010. Our 5 SD and 5 SW cadets got an opportunity to attend the special NIC camp at Kohima from 29-11-09 to 11-12-09, where cadets from all over India attend the camp. 53 cadets appeared for the ‘B’ certificate and 19 cadets for the ‘C’ certificate examination at Madikeri.

Grievance Redressal cell
Objective:
The Grievance Redressal Cell responded to the grievances of students and helped them by providing transportation facility on time. Consulting the KSRTC depot Manager buses at convenient times were put on line for students to arrive on time. As Global Warming is the crisis everywhere, Coorg though a cool place is also badly hit by scorch weather this time and students could not beat the heat. So as per their request Ceiling Fans have been fixed in every class on the first floor by the Grievance Redressal Cell. The Grievance Redressal Cell also responded quickly to the wants of the students by providing them with drinking water facility – with Pure-it water filters and Aqua Guard at certain points.

Students Association
The inauguration of students’ Association and the Talents day took place on 23rd September 2009. The Annual day of the college was organized by the students association. The chief guest was the chairperson of the Irish Writer’s union; Ms Helen Dwyer and the guest speaker was Prof. P.L. Dharma, Prof. of Political Science, post graduate studies, Mangalagangothri, Mangalore.

Debate Association

  • The debate association organized Chendada Ponnappa Memorial – an Inter-collegiate University level elocution competition on the impact of global Recession on Indian Economy; Reservation Policy in corporate sectors; Development and Environment on 03-04-2010.
  • The Debate association conducted A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition for college students.

Language Association
Association conducted a creative writing workshop for Kannada & English optional BA students in the month of January. Sri. Abdul Rasheed, a writer in Kannada & English, Kendra Sahithya Academy Awardee, honourary Editor of Kenda Sampige-Kannada website, addressed the students on creative writing processes.

Human Rights Association
Association organized a talk on “Human Rights and Right to information Act” on 8th Oct 2009

English literary association

  • The Association organized a lecture on the “Importance of Language and the taste of Liteature”.
  • The department of English celebrated V.K. Gokak’s Centenary.
  • A talk on the “Flowers of the world” was also organized by the English Literary Association.
  • The spoken English certificate course was also conducted and the certificates were distributed to the students in its valedictory by the guest speaker Smt. Puthuli, former Professor of English.
  • The department of English in association with the department of studies in English, Manasagangothri, Mysore, organized a UGC sponsored Two day National Seminar on “English Language Learning and Higher Education – A New Perspective on 9th & 10th April 2010.
  • The English Literary Association organized a quiz competition on English Language and Literature on April 21st 2010. Prof. Keshav of the department of Commerce was the quiz master.

History Association
Objective
History Association was inaugurated on August 21st 2006-07 by the Principal of KALS Public School Gonikoppal. The students were enlightened by the talk rendered by the Principal.

  • The association organized a talk on coorg History by Sri A Appanna
  • Certificate courses are available in Embroidery for the students of History

Literary Association
Objective
It was formed to undertake several exciting programs. The literary association conducted seminars, guest talks, organized poetry reading and short story reading sessions motivating students to be creative and imaginative.

HRD Cell
Objective
The cell has taken up the initiative in getting final year commerce students subscribe to the leading business bulletin “Business Line”

  • The HRD cell along with Rotary Gonikoppal organized a guest lecture on career counseling – ‘How to prepare for competitive examination’ by the subject expert Sri. N.C. Muniyappa – Principal Secretary to the department of agriculture on 13-02-2010.
  • Conducted group discussions and Mock interviews for final year students to equip themselves with the soft skills required to face the competitive world.
  • Arranged guest lectures to get into MBA degree. A talk on  ‘How to get into good Institutes of Management’ by Resource persons from the Bangalore school  of Business

Sports Association
Objective
The department of Physical education was introduced in 1968, with the motto “Determination, Hard work and success”. The department provides better facilities to the aspirants in sports and enables them to pursue higher education and job placements in defence forces under sports quota. The department has one full time director. Over the past five years we have produced a lot of sports persons who represented the Mangalore University at the state and national level sports and games. The Department organized the following tournaments:

  • Mangalore University intercollegiate Hockey for Men & Women for many years.
  • Cauverian’s cup 2001 and felicitated international Hockey players.
  • All India National South-Zone Hockey Tournament in 1986.
  • Nestle Kodagu Hockey Trophy for 8 year.
  • University level Volleyball tournament in 1987.
  • University level Ball-Badminton tournament in 1995
  • University Hockey coaching camp for men for two years
  • “B” Division Kodagu League – 2004-05.
  • State level P.U.C College Boys & Girls Hockey Tournament.
